Congratulations to Andreas Ettl with this winning image entitled "Sand Waterfall". Andreas from London has won 12 months membership to The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers.
Andreas tells us "I took the image at Upper Antelope Canyon - a
slot canyon in Navajo near Page, Arizona - in May last year. At the time of my
visit, the canyon was crowded with people but I still managed to shoot through
the crowds to capture the running sand from the rock in one of the narrow
passageways. There was only one chance to get the picture since the groups have
to stay with their guides at all times and are basically being rushed through
the canyon but I got lucky and the only shot I was able to take was a keeper.
I called the picture "Sand Waterfall" because to me the very fine sand looked
like a golden, sunlit waterfall illuminated by the warm light that entered the
canyon from above.
I used my Nikon D800 and Nikor 16-35mm f/4.0 to capture the photo. The camera
was equipped with a RRS L-bracket mounted on a Feisol CT-3442 tripod with an
Acratech GPS Ballhead. I shot the picture with a cable remote at ISO400 with a
focal lenght of 35mm, an aperture of f/16 and an exposure time of 4 seconds."
